Punters Have Bet over 20 Million Euros on the Soccer World Cup

The Soccer World Cup in South Africa has come close to its final period and gamblers are becoming increasingly interested as matches become more attractive. The Fortuna Group has registered bets totaling more than EUR 20 million in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Croatia and Hungary.

Half of the final eight pairs are now obvious and the most eye catching battle can be expected to take place in the match between Germany and England. One of these two world cup favorites will go home at the completion of this stage of the competition.

“Argentina is an undeniable favorite, there is no doubt about that, and Uruguay is likely to manage its task. However, anything can happen in the other two matches. One thing is clear; the sales figures of German or English breweries will either plunge or skyrocket after the weekend,” says Michal Hanák, Fortuna’s Chief Bookmaker.

Assisted by the favorites’ most recent victories, gamblers have been quite successful so far in this year’s championship. The largest win related to the World Cup, and paid out so far, amounts to more than EUR 17,000. Betting EUR 790, the punter won multiple bets in a ticket with total odds of 22:1.
